I only got punched in the face by that big guy, and he was like a billion times my size so it's hardly a fair thing to criticize me on!

example of theory vs. reality

and

and...

Just a few examples of the same side hand and arm coming down by Buakaw.
That being said, I like the arm coming out and up as well, however this is another new adjustment for me, as I used to roll the same side shoulder over and tuck the chin behind it whilst dropping the arm... especially for high kicks.
As you can see here... old habits die hard.

For leg kicks, it has always been trying to keep both hands up. Trying being the key word.... I doubt you would find a shot of me kicking in competition where both hands are in even close to ideal position...Last edited by octaviousbp; 11/08/2006 11:13pm at .

octavious- none of those are low kicks. read the title of the thread.
when i throw a mid/high kick, unless i royally **** it up, i am almost guaranteed that the other guy isnt gonna be able to reach my face with his hands. assuming he isnt a giant. so i swing for the hills, tuck my chin behind my shoulder and move my head off the centreline (i have the real wing chun) just in case they DO throw a straight and my distancing sucks.Nick says:

Alex, I read the title of the thread. The thread had drifted slightly to the topic of hand position in general... at least that is what you seemed to be ragging on kid for.
But here are some directly and specifically related to the thread title...
Wanlop

Hoost

reading comprehension 101- try reading the posts before yours instead of surmising. unless what i wrote, somehow, didnt convey i was talking about leg kicks

I was addressing the thread Alex, not your posts specifically. As I said in my previous posts, I was referring to arm positions while kicking in general in my post, and specifically to arm position while low kicking at the end.
You then told me to read the thread title, and I did, and posted pics directly pertaining to people dropping their hands during bouts while kicking the legs. My post was done in defence of kid, not that she needs it, that even the elite boxers make these mistakes.
