My KK dojo allowed head shots.
Tournaments are a diffent story. Oyama (as Asia once wrote) wanted to be ok with JKA and had to avoid "bloodbaths," to make tournies ok in Japan. Asia and Ronin, if you care to search, have written about this more than once.

I'm just curious about their training methods, I do muay thai at the moment, which I quite enjoy. I don't think anyone has mentioned the group yet, if I remember correctly, it might have began with a Y, and the headgear they wore seemed to look very simliar to kendo's headgear but without the metal bars!

Theres an interesting story about Shigeru Oyama who founded Oyama USA that would break all of his blackbelts chest bone once they succesfully tested to blackbelt. That Shigeru Oyama is a crazy man seriously.
