Read this for flexibility and injury prevention, this, this and this for supplementation, this on grip conditioning, and this on staph. New: On strenght standards, relationships and structural balance. Shoulder problems? Read this.

My crapuous vlog and my blog of training, stuff and crap. NEW: Me, Mrs. Macho and our newborn baby.

New To Weight Training? Get the StrongLifts 5x5 program and Rippetoe's "Starting Strength, 2nd Ed". Wanna build muscle/gain weight? Check this article. My review on Tactical Nutrition here.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

I usually eat a fruit bar or other breakfast bar about 1.5 hours before training. I also drink tons of water up until about 1.5 hours before training.

i eat a light meal around 2 hours before i hit the gym or class... usually a garden salad with a lemon wedge for flavor, a piece of dry whole grain toast, and a glass of o.j. or other juice along with my multivitamin. 20oz. water inbetween and during the class.

as for the shins... the theory is that the bones become more dense due to the calcium build up on dead cells. Destroying your shins (bruising/spongy bone) is a good way to destroy the work you have already put in motion...if you want to train/deadin the nerves in your shins get yourself a rolling pin and while you stretch roll that up and down your shin putting pressure where you need it. otherwise your gonna damage the inner bone tissue from making weak spots in your shin bones and the pressure from within will spread to the outer tissue and the compression can cause cracking or stress damage. (if im wrong someone tell me please, its been a while since biomechanics/anatomy class)

Squits? I don't know what that is. I used it as a holdover until after training so I could have dinner then. It worked for me, I think probably because of the whole grains and sugar, it is more of a "slow burn" and gives you energy but not the "sugar rush" kind. If there's something I should know that I don't, let me know. I came upon it by trial and error more than anything.

If I'm home in time, I'll have a big bowl of rice about an hour and a half before class. Since I'm usually not... it's bananas for me as well.

I eat a somewhat heavy meal 3 hours before a workout and a light meal 1.5 hours before the workout. Then about 30 minutes before the workout Ill have a glass of apple juice.

The 1st meal is whatever I can fit in my tummy, the 2nd is usually 1 or 2 bowls of cereal or something else thats high in carbs and then the juice.
