Why don't you try reading the websites you posted. Seems to me that might answer your own question.

I have...the AHF seems to want to preserve medieval fencing, and Arma wants to reconstruct the fencing world, but aemma wants to teach its students actual combat skills using medieval techniques and the such. Is it BS? Anyone know any more dealing with Medieval ma's?

It exists because there are old manuals people wish to reconstruct.
    What am I?:

I am ignorant, thieving, lying, hypocrital, violent and thoroughly self obssessed. I steal from others to make myself look better, only to make the item or information worse.

I go on and on and ON about how brave and strong and brilliant and wealthy I am, but in the end I'm all mouth and no trousers.

That's right children, I'm your average AMERICUNT! and I exemplify AMERICA!:911flag:

Yes, through persistent lack of work and the cultivation of ignorance, he is a true American.

It's not BS. It's applicability to modern fighting, however, is a matter for debate.

ARMA is cool because you get to do basically no rules sparring

It's no stranger than people who do Japanese koryu. These guys are pretty closely related to SCA folks. There are interesting cultural reconstruction aspects to it. It's an odd hobby -- but so is any martial art. These are the European equivalent of people who would rather do kenjustu (military sword art) than kendo (sport fencing). But real European sword arts died out centuries ago -- fencing is descended from "gentlemanly" fighting and not medival European military arts.

Why do people do historical preservation? Why do people reenact Civil War battles. Why do people do TKD? Whatever floats their boats.

These people tend to be a little off. But no more so than wanna be ninja or samurai.

It is not closely related to the SCA. And the combat groups like ARMA do not do cultural reconstruction. They are reconstructing the fighting arts of medieval times based on surving instructional manuals and writings. And they practice them as a martial art. The kendo/kenjutsu comparison is somewhat correct. Though, AFAIK, sparring is not a large part of kenjutsu while it is with medieval combat groups.
