Trouble with rolling over the shoulder sweep

You know the one, from crossguard --- as used constantly by Pe de Pano, very slick sweep. I can almost never get the damn thing to work, however. I always end up getting lifted, without being able to unbalance my opponent enough to topple him.

Anybody have good tips on how to get this one to be more effective? It really opens up the cross guard game.

Forgive the ignorant question: crossguard = x-guard?

No, cross guard is the open guard in which you take a "cross" grip on your opponent's sleeve and use your other hand to grab the ankle/knee on the same side.

It is nothing like the x-guard, except that the names are similar.

If you have control of the ankle, place your foot on there hip and extend your leg. They tumble over because you have control of the ankle that they could post with.

Tyrone Glover was good with this sweep too. I've played with it some, but don't do it well enough to give advice on it. I have better luck faking the sweep and rolling back for the triangle.

I've got a huge series of tutorials on cross guard and this sweep in particular that I'll be putting up soon.

It's highly likely that you'll cream your jeans over them.

Awesome! If you include a series on helicopter sweeps from cross guard, I'm going to ruin my laundry for a week.

Really trying to improve my sweeps from cross guard that do not utilize the omoplata ... namely the helicopter and over-the-shoulder sweeps. I can't land either type with any proficiency, even though I play tons of cross guard.
