So when you DO shoot for the take down, it'll be that much more effecient...and 'pretty'...

I have to disagree with that.

By way of example, where do you see more "efficient and 'Pretty'" hand work, in boxing or in MMA?

Not a comment on MMA itself but an observation that you will see more expert examples of any given skill in a context that focuses more specifically on that skill. For obvious reasons.

Pure boxers don't look very "pretty" in MMA because their opponents don't try to box them. I think his point was that the new generation of fighters like St. Pierre have so many dimensions to their game that when they do shoot, it works better because it's a surprise. As opposed to a straight up wrestler who everyone knows is going to shoot at every opportunity.

Also the MMAist could be faking the shot for something else like an overhand right. A pure wrestler would not have the skillset to do something like that.

And because of that you are going to see more technical excellence in takedowns in wrestling than in MMA. As for "works better," that's a whole other discussion.

Takedowns lead to discussion about wrestling (more specifically the wrestling aspect of mma).

I wonder why ive yet to see an ankle pick in mma, except for Waterman vs. Crocop?
