~I have been training there for just over 7 months now and hold a white belt, so any views I make here are coming from that level of experience with the art~

Great group of guys, and pretty laid back environment. The school has two locations one in Huntington (where I train) and the other in East Meadow, NY. Between them there is currently 3 black belts besides Matt himself that teach classes regularly, with a number of brown belts that run classes on off-days. Every instructor in my opinion has been quite friendly and proven to be utmost knowledgeable of all aspects of grappling gi or no-gi and aren't afraid to get on the mat and make sure every student understands what they are working on.

Although it is a BJJ school, lots of no-gi transitions and differences are addressed and worked into class no matter the level of the student. Students begin live rolling as soon as they have the basics down.

Classes run on a typical format of:

-Warmup

-Drilling techniques and reversals/counters to the technique

-"King of the hill" style position drilling such as Guard passing, mount taking from side control etc.

-Open Mat

Overall I'd recommend this school to anyone who wants to improve their ground game. I haven't had one bad experience there, and my ability on the ground I feel is growing exponentially.

I can vouch for KempoFists non suckage since training there. I remember sparring him before he was in BJJ at Serra's (sucked on ground a lot), compared to where he is now- I can't throw him around at will anymore :( Based on grappling him nowadays its a good school, plus its got some Pro MMA fighters training there.

Great place to train. I spend a few days training there some 2 years back.
Matt and Nick Serra used to run a lot of the classes themselves.
A bit steep moneywise and really no equipment for anything other than BJJ.

hey im from west babylon and looking into schools. do they do any stand up at all there? and does anyone know of any good muay thai/kickboxing schools near me. theres some place called cambells in amityville but it seemed more for kids. in your guys opion what do you think is the best school overall on long island? im 27 athletic and looking for a place to train instead of going to a gym and dont want to be around a bunch of kids. any help would be much appreciated.

what's up I'm in West Babylon also. I went by Serra's place yesterday. I wasn't too impressed with the facility but the guys seemed to know what they're talking about and I've heard nothing but good things. They don't do standup in regular classes, but I often see blue belts and above come in and work some standup privates with I think one of the guys from Longos. Mostly padwork and drills there. If you want standup, Serras sister school is Ray Longos kickboxing in Mineola.

No idea. Bound to be expensive if you do them separately, but I'm pretty sure you could do Jits and kickboxing at Longos without going to Serras and it would be considerably cheaper.
