Rules vary depending on who is doing it... See my post from the resistant tai chi video thread for some examples.

You guys have selective attention than let me help you with oyour basic brain functions than

Tai Chi in combat is extremely fast due to the huge amount of relaxation that the performers have, to achieve that everything is practiced in slow motion. Also there is no such thing as tai chi sparring because it's a little too dangerous given that every hand strike could possibly be the last using soft punching and Fajing. The way to train Tai Chi for the street

requires a padded attacker if you are going to use strikes.

While for the use of joint locks or throws it can be

practices like every other martial art.

I love how that guy reposted my full quote, and you guys only read what you wanted to read...

    lol...

I personally don't spar I'm too low in rank. The black belts did use to but right now having Sgt. Cooper constantly on call we are being trained by 2 nidans and aikido is focused on the lower kyu's hence jiuwaza and rendori.
So let's see -- you claim knowing Taichi principles can help with grapple (yet you neither grapple nor spar). You claim taichi sparring is too dangerous because a hand strike could kill someone. You don't spar yet pass judgements on people who do.

I haven't competed yet. We do free-form pushing hands as a drill, wrestle a lot and spar hard with headgear (not the nutty redman suit type headgear or stuff with big plastic faceplates) and 10oz gloves.

There are clips of people from where I train in San Shou competition on the club's site. I've posted them a few times.

I'm only dangerous if I land on top of you after a throw.
