    24 hour endurance event training

    I have just rather foolishly signed up for a 24 hour endurance event that takes place in a months time. I did one many years ago when I was young, stupid, fit grunt.
    Flashback....

    Anyway, I am wondering what the best way to train for this is obver the limited available time. Any ideas?

    Ouch! That will make it hard to train for. :)

    Will it be you running or such for 24 straight hours? Or is it more along the lines of you have to do a specific event over the course of 24 hours, such as run a certain distance every hour.

    Either way, good luck with it. Where is it, if I may ask?

    its in wellington, new zealand. A local gym is running it.... and i bloody hope its not all running

    Heh heh. What could be more fun than running non-stop for 24 hours????

    If you look up "worlds fittest man" (I think) the yank who owns (trademarked) that title does something similar. Several thousand push ups, sit ups, canoing, running, all kinds of body weight exercises. He says it takes years to prepare for and months to recover from.

    Watch out if it involves sheep and the word "Tantric" is anywhere in the literature.

    Seriously though, perhaps you should start out just staying up 24 hours, doing something every hour, like a set of push ups or sit ups, etc. At least you'll get some experience working in sleep deprivation.

    Perhaps something like the ruckmarch portion of the Best Ranger competition, but toned down a notch - like more time and no pack. If you can't walk around for 24 hours straight, how will you be able to do that crazy stuff for that long?

    Don't forget to add in hours for getting to the event as well. You could be facing 28 or more hours without sleep. Get used to sleeping in short shifts, like 10 or 15 minutes at a time, if rest is available on the course.
