Ok, I was pretty caught up with the work and it took me more time to complete it but I think I did this right...
    So
    1) check
    2) check
    3) used the aforementioned technique
    4) check
    5) Only found tetrahydrous borax; seem to work anyway
    6) check

    8) check
    9) didn' use any

The "sandwich" seem to hold. I'll work on it some more, then we'll see.

That would be awesome, if the minimum number of posts required had not been upped to, apparently, 55.

Err... is that sentence grammatically correct?

Yeah but, like me, you use more than the absolutely necessary number of commas.

Convoluted sentences with pointless digressions are my trademark :kermit:.

    Thanks, anyway.

I don't know what exactly is a "mud forge", but I'll tell you what I do when confronting this problem: usually there is something wrong with the ventilation, so I try to regulate the flow.
When this fails to solve the problem I scrap the used coke on the bottom and start a new fire. If you still can't obtain sufficient heat you might want to make a new forge.
I made one from an old portable BBQ, thirty cms of iron pipe and an old hair dryer; I used a drill, a circular saw (one of those with carbide blades) and a electric solderer.
