If God carried a gun, it would be a 1911.
Assiduus usus uni rei deditus et ingenium et artem saepe vincit - Cicero
Fortitudine Vincimus - Ernest Shackelton :englishmo
A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. - John Stuart Mill -

The Spirit MC was the first major MMA tournament ever held in Korea with the 1st tournament held in April of 2003. The first tournament was set up elimination style with winning fighters moving on to the next round until there were only 4 fighters remaining. Those 4 fighters would return in May to fight against 4 special guest fighters, also in an elimination format with the last man standing being crowned champ and winning over $24,000.
Now here's the fun part. The elimination tournament in April spanned an entire weekend and had 64 competitors participating. No weight divisions. Rules similar to Pride (possibly the same). No foreigners allowed. Ethnic Koreans only, that could include Koreans that were not currently residing in Korea.
So the guys that made the final 4 had to fight their way through everyone else over a 2 day period.
Representatives of the following styles participated in that first event;
TKD, Hapkido, Judo, Kuk Sool, Kyuk Tu Gi, BJJ, Boxing, Taekkyon, Muay Thai, Pro Wrestling, Wrestling, Yool Sool, Kong Su do (Karate), Street Fighting, Te Gong Moo Sool, Kung Fu, and others that I am sure I am forgetting.
Entry to the elimination event was free! You had to pay to see the finals. How do I know all this? I was there 1/2 of Saturday and all of Sunday during the elimination. I also saw the finals. And to this day it was the most entertaining MMA event that I have ever seen and I have tried and failed repeatedly to get into contact with the Spirit MC office to try to buy a DVD of the first event.
