Sensei Ikemiyagi Masaaki in action

This is an awesome find for me, as I trained under Wade (the big blonde guy in the video) for a short time and later under Ricky who also trained under Sensei Ikemiyagi. He is one bad dude. Meibukan Goju-Ryu concentrated a lot on body conditioning but sparring was more restricted to the higher belt levels, at least from what I saw since I was only a noob. Their gedan mawashi geris are very powerful. Sensei Ikemiyagi is known as "The Makiwara Breaker" due to his strikes.

Seems like Wade (blond guy) is trying out for human punching bag. He justs lets Master beat the crap out of him. I know the etiquette is you don't fight back in these sparring sessions, but this is really being loyal.

Thats been shown on the Discovery Channel numerous times. I think if Wade actually wanted to have at his sensei I think he could but will not do it out of respect. He looks solid and has good tech he's probably better than what he saying in the clip.

Isn't that the same thing that happened with Aikido and Ueshiba when he was older? His students at that point were basically throwing themselves around out of respect, thereby making Ueshiba seem like such a badass in his old age even though he wasn't the man he used to me.

Some of what they are doing is body conditioning, so it's mostly Wade letting himself get hit to conditon himself for the blows. I'm sure Sensei Ikemiyagi isn't going full power either though. To let you know how strong those kicks can be, I have seen Wade take some strong leg kicks from other individuals and bang shin on shin HARD and not even blink. My experience with it is still pretty limited as I didn't get to train in it for very long, but it's what got my interest in hard traditional karate in the first place and influenced me to train in Kyokushin.
