Interesting, so Paddy was in fact a real person, and not a character?

Absolutely. There was an excellent article on O'Neill in the Journal of asian martial arts a few years ago. I'll see if I can dig up my copy for reference.

I did some research online, 4th dan from the Kodokan, under Kano, impressive!

Devil's Brigade is one of my favorite movies.

I have trained under Bill Wolf and I will say that his credentials are not "made up". If you look at his military and police backgroung, it is very real. It is not the be all and end all of martial arts, but is is a great place to start or to take your training to another level.
It is a simple stripped down system that has taken from military self defence (Wolf was an instructor for the Canadian Military), police self defence (Wolfe is still instructing the British Columbia RCMP), western boxing, Mui Tai (certified instructor), Hapkito (8th Dan Black Belt World Hapkido Federation, 6th Dan Black Belt Original Korean Hapkido Association obtained in Korea), Ju-Jutsu (4th Dan Black Belt Aiki Goshindo Ju Jutsu - France ), and Judo (1st Dan Black Belt Kodokan Judo - Canadian Army Judo Team 1969-72, Canada ). I still cross train so like I said Defendo is not the be all and end all, but it is valid and worth a look.
I will also disagree with the comment about how women are treated there. When I got my Battleschool Certification, which was the most intense 20 hours of training I have ever gone through, I had my ass handed to me by a few different girls, so to say they train them because they have to is false. It is what you make of it, and the girls I faught and trained with got the same if not better training, to make sure they could handle any man.

Size, I don't think we have any isses with Mr. Wolfes military, police, or even his martial arts credentials. It's just the usage of the name Defendo.

This was posted on the previous page. Pretty much spells it all out.

I'd go check it out but the North shore is a pain in the ass to get to.

Well, there is also the mysterious Harold Stairn, who Wolfe claims was the man who taught him the Fairbairn techniques that he finds are the most effective. There is apparently only one grainy picture of him, no record of him as a Canadian or British soldier.

Wolfe apparently does have a good school, it just is not based on FAS techniques.

So... the common agreement seems to be that Defendo is a valid self-defence system, but the lineage is murky?
I saw an ad from the website that offers a uniform and 1-week trial for something like $60. I may just try it out and see if I want to join. I hope this trial isn't too basic stuff. ("..so, because all muggers attack in the downward stabbing motion...")
