Well I think of in the same way that Eddie Bravo does when having these crazy names for movements and position. Instead of saying the complecated step by step movements you just say Mission Control or New York. It actually helps. Having names creates mental triggers. If someone said "lower your closed guard, bring your posture up, move yourself under his arms so that you can bring your arm across his side...etc, etc, etc..." or you can say "Octopus Guard" and you do it.

My instructor does the same with side mount chokes and the kimura shoulder lock. Instead of trying to muscle the move he told us we should think of someone tapping on our shoulder and us lifting and twisting our hips up to see who it is. Whenever I go for those moves I think, "someone tapping my shoulder" and I'm good.

Isn't the Octopus guard used in "The Fast And Furious II"?

I found it interesting that it looks like Eduardo had a tattoo of a gigantic octopus on his shoulder. When Eddie Bravo gets a Goodyear tire tattoo'ed on him, that's when I'll know he's serious about his rubber guard.

LoL! Good stuff man. Yeah, I think I read somewhere that Eduardo believed in the octopus guard so much that he got that tattoo.

Yeah, either a Goodyear tire tattoo or one of Mr. Fantastic from the Fantastic Four.
