    1972 Olympic Suplex Video

Maybe if I post something I'll stop being remided that I haven't posted in a few weeks.

In the 1972 Olympics, a time before heavyweight had a limit, Wilfred Dietrich of West Germany hits a textbook suplex on over four hundred pounds of Chris Taylor.

That's a really nice clip. I still prefer the Randleman-Fedor suplex, but this one ain't too shoddy either.

That's the one that came to mind when I saw this one.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

Actually, a belly-to-belly Back-Arch throw in Greco-Roman Wrestling is called a Salto, if memory serves.

The WWE has a Suplex (sounds like "sue - plecks"). However, a belly-to-back Back-Arch throw in Greco-Roman Wrestling is also called Suplex, but is pronounced as "sue - play" because it is a word of French origin in an international sport. In the U.S., many people have adopted "Suplay" as an alternate spelling.

Folkstyle wrestling used to just lump all this into a more generic term of Back-Arch. Regardless, I cringe when I hear "sue - plecks" (or worse - "sup - pill - lecks" - ugh!) applied to legitimate wrestling because of the WWE association.

for a second there, I thought that the guy was going to land right on top of him. would this be counted as a slam in a BJJ tournament?

great post Tom Kagan. I will never call that throw a soo-plecks again!

well he does land on his head first and then rolls and finishes the sue-play. of course on "The Streets" that move would have result in some seriopus brain damage for the thrower.
    Eduardo "Why'd you stop."

Me "I was kicked in the head by the guys sparring next to me."

Eduardo "Ino what happened but i didnt say you could stop."

Me "Um.. I guess I keep going."

Eduardo "You dont stop until i say stop, you dont get tired until i say your tired, keep going."
