    Tae Kwon DO

    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    ...

He's not a karate instructor. Though he's trained in many martial arts (he's been doing this stuff since he was 9), he teaches Tae Kwon Do, Kickboxing, boxing, and his "Tae Bombo" class at the Florida Fitness center in the st. laurent mall, and a few classes in Merrivale (ottawa). Tae Bombo is basically an hour-long cardio workout in which he incorporates martial art techniques. But there's no bags invovled. It's called Tae Bombo because Bombo is his last name. As far as I've seen he's a great instructor and his students love him. no. he's not a pedophile, idiots. the people on the poster are 20 year olds. only the kids in the corner are from his children's Tae Kwon Do class.

So yea, Tae Kwon Do is basically his main thing right now, and he's teaching under the school of Master Chong Lee from Montreal. that's all I know, since I'm a student in his older Tae Kwon Do class.

At our SJJ club, there's a "Box & Kick" class held by one of the brownbelts every Sunday afternoon. I go there sometimes because it's a good workout.

Being 34 years old I have to work harder to stay fit, so anything helps. Especially since I started my MA training late, only 8 years ago this fall.

There's something called "Forza" in Stockholm. It's aerobics with a special twist: a bokken (wooden sword) is used in many exercises. I'm sure it's a good workout, but they don't learn to cut properly. OTOH Forza isn't marketed as a martial art.

I saw two HUGE posters in the windows of the empty Adecco offices on Bank Street today. Looks like Tae Bombo is getting its own place in downtown Ottawa! The posted mentioned (if I recall correctly) karate, olympic tae kwon do, kickboxing and "Tae Bombo mixed martial arts workout".

    *shrug*

    I'm curious.

According to this Florida Fitness documentation . . .

Tae Bombo is a new form of martial arts and combat sport that was developed by
Gustave Bombo in 1997 for the beautification of the human spirit and body. A Way of
    Living.

The fact that it's offered at Florida Fitness makes be assume that it's a hybrid of cardio-kickboxing and tae bo, but the statement clearly says that it's a combat sport.

    Hmmm . . . further investimigation required!

Found a Tae Bombo group on Facebook.

This is taken from their wall:

    Here is some Information:

    Schedule
Gustave is planning to offer Tae Bombo twice on Monday (12:00 and 6:00), Wednesday (12:00 and 6:30) and Friday (12:00 and 6:00) with the 15 minute abs class included in the evening classes. He will also teach Tae Bombo Sunday at noon with the 15 minute abs class afterwards. He is bringing back the 45 minute Abs and Butt class he used to teach (Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon), and is also offering Boxing (3 times/wk), Kickboxing full contact (3 times/wk), and TaeKwonDo for both adults (3 times/wk) and kids (2 times/wk).

    Pricing
Tae Bombo + abs classes (including Abs and Butt) = $50/month
Boxing, Kickboxing or adult TaeKwonDo = $70/month
    Kids TaeKwonDo = $60/month
Abs and Butt class = $35/month
Combine any martial art class (Boxing, Kickboxing or TaeKwonDo) with Tae Bombo and Abs classes for $95/month
The registration fee (I think $25) will be waived for past students from Florida Fitness.
There is also a 'drop-in' rate for Tae Bombo = $15/class

Sounds like a place that opened up near me a few years back called Thai Bomb Do, or something ridiculous.

Yeah, they've been 'opening soon' for months now. As far as I can tell, they've demolished the walls, and... well, that's about it - haven't even shoveled all the debris into a dumpster. I get the feeling the posters will hang in the window for another couple of months, and then they'll be taken down and replaced with 'this space for rent'.

Do you know anything about what Tae Bombo really is, Chili Pepper?
Is it a combat sport? A hybrid martial art? Just another aerobic / cardio trend product?
    Thanks for the info!

[disclaimer - I have no first hand knowledge] Can't imagine it's anything other than a cardio kickboxing program, really.

That name is GOLD. Tae Bombo.

I don't know, but the only thing I can think of with that name is well endowed ladies doing cardio boxing under some latino music.

I can hear the sound of jugs flying from here.
