National Geographic Documentry: "Kick Fighters"

Lots of MT fighters were pretty much adopted by a gym as kids, trained to become top fighters and make the trainers some money. Wouldnt surprise me if a lot of them had history with crime.

When have they ever been considered high class?

It's my understanding that middle America still sees professional fighting as a bunch of thugs in the ring.

They're only considered high class if they've got a ton of money after they retire.

Buakaw uses his money to pay for his sister's education. I'm sure that doesn't account for ALL his winnings, but that is one notable expense.

TKD is the most popular martial art in Thailand, however the stigma associated with Thai boxers isn't because they are considered criminals, but they are almost always from the lowest economic/social classes of Thailand and are therefore "looked down upon" by people with a better social standing. Many fighters in Thailand become fighters simply because they have no other real options to support themselves or their family.

Wow, old thread. And this is freaky, I just read a post by Khun Kao on MMA.tv then I come here and see him again, you do have the same name there dont you?
