I'm not gonna argue about him with it, I just don't get it.

    That's my stance on it.

He said that because in a fight 90% of your technique goes out the window, you want to do it 150% so that in the fight you'll do it at 60% instead of 10% (technique wise). I kinda see it... but then there's the "train how you fight" or whatever...

Pooploops, I tend to fall into this guy's camp.

I've actually done that silly outside wrist grab in a fight. Didn't do it perfectly and sure as hell didn't plan on it: it just happened when the guy from latched on to me so his buddies could beat me into pesto. So I think there's legitimate arguments on both sides. Heck, the Weaver vs. Isoceles shooters have been going back and forth on this for years... I shoot Weaver b/c I go cold and calm when I'm in trouble. My best friend turns into the Tasmanian Devil. He shoots isoceles, and I would too, if I did... and his game plan relies on ridiculous conditioning and gross motor movements.

At some point you have to make theory fit your own personal context. Of course, if your assessment of said context is off, that may involve your face getting smashed in...

I don't know about the "check your six" thing while kicking: I would take care of that as a gestalt in my footwork. But the 150-to-get-60% I totally agree with, while it does my buddy no good whatsoever.

    /make more sense?

The idea of going above and beyond in training so you can put for a solid effort during an actual fight? Definitely agree with that idea. I just don't get the emphasis on turning your head around.

Me neither, to be honest, unless he teaches a very acrobatic, no-inner-line game... but a muay capoerista would be a weeeyerd beastie.
