    what confuses me about this statement
    "By tweaking the voltage across the semiconductor, they can adjust how high the barrier appears to electrons. If the barrier is low, the electrons will be blocked. But make the barrier high enough, and counterintuitively, electrons should sail through."

    is that in the previous paragraph they said that only in infinitely high walls is an electron trapped. are computer manufactureres willing to accept a chance of lost data due to electrons escaping the "box"?

    as long as we're being intellectual. back in the days of the modem, hardware engineers created error correction. so i suppose lost electrons, kept under some threshold, wouldn't be a huge issue.
