Gee, do ya really think that's what a history professor is going to be most well-versed in? You don't think some folks here who have actual experience in the area might not be a more reliable source?

Well with my experience with Korean Gumdo its a little bit different then Kendo. The techniques are the same however the basis of Gumdo is to fight muliple opponents like you were in war.

Korean Kendo.. oh this thread is soooo ironic

Doesn't look very Korean to me. They're even using JAPANESE made bogu.

Did you ask which kind of Kumdo they were practicing? In Korea they have Kumdo that is identical to the Japanese Kendo, and they have Haedong Kumdo which is Korean flavored Japanese Kendo. Still all the same techniques but different uniforms.

Dave, what exactly are you on about? KKA is the Korean affiliate for IKF, they readily acknowledge the Japanese origin of kendo. They are wearing bogu of Japanese design, but it could be made in Korea and probably is. No way to tell from that picture.

The Koreans wear slightly different uniforms - the hakama are white with black stripes on the side and fasten with velcro - and skip some of the Japanese formalities but otherwise it's the same. The Korean style tends towards the athletic, with lots of multiple attacks, but still well within the variation you'll find in Japanese kendo.

I was generally speaking, with an ironic tone. Inclusion of that image was to reinforce that Kumdo is essentially Kendo.
