TKD World Champs
Prolly Der could answer this question best, but any answer will suffice.
We have a new instructor at my TKD dojang. (My instructor regularily gets new young guys to come in and train us). Apparently, he won a gold medal in a world championship some years ago.
Where can I get a listing of the medal winners for the different championships?
Apparently he won his in Spain (don't know the year the world championships was held in Spain, or if it ever was)
The last name is Jeung (not sure of the spelling, but apparently this is a pretty common name in Korea,
He's a smaller guy... definatly not a heavyweight, but I'm not sure of his weight class.
I've haven't had much time to train lately, but from what I've seen of this guy, he can kick some serious ass without trying too hard. This in itself is good enough for me as a trainer, but I'm just curious if this is legit, so I can brag to everyone how bad ass I'm gonna be with my three day a week of training from such a pro... whahaha
Slydermv (aka to lazy to do a google search)
The WTF world championships last year were in Madrid. Next ones will be 2007 in China I think.
The WTF has a winners list for all associated world championships at:
Browsing through the WTF world championships lists, in the 8th World Taekwondo Championships held in barcelona in 1987, a Kuk Hyun Jeong won the welterweight gold.
edit to add: Just reread your post and 1987 seems a little old if the "young guy" description applies.

Hmmm.. that's intresting. I would guess he's mid 20's... maybe a junior national champ?... cause if he was 18-19 in '87... that would make him about 35-36 now... and there's no way.
I'll have to ask more questions and get back. Thanks for the links.
Junior Nationals?!? pretty f'n entertaining if you're TWELVE!!!
