What would you like to read about?
Working on my next piece for grappling magazine (see the upcoming one next month).
I have a few ideas brewing (leaning toward a history/technique article about combat sambo competition) but, I figured I would go right to the source and see what readers would like to read about.
Post any suggestions you would have here...
Possible differences in strategy/style between SAMBO,BJJ and Sub Wrestling.
Great ideas. I did a leg lock article in the June 2006 issue you may want to check out. You can read it at our website www.ussambo.com
The strategy angle is a good one. The are definitely different concepts at work...or at least varients of similar concepts. The difference in ground time allowed is a huge factor.
Yeah, I like the strategy idea. Where's the difference in focus between Sombo and the rest? What are the bread and butter techniques that most Sombo players fall back on and/or look for, as opposed to BJJ/Sub grapplers? What positional setups may be different? Etc., etc. A little compare and contrast could be very enlightening.
Well, for starters, sambo has MUCH less ground time allowed than in BJJ so you see a much faster paced game. What BJJ considers active ground work is generally much slower by sambo standards. Also, the hold down points cause much more use of top control. Another factor is that only open guard is alowed in sport sambo so you also see a fester guard game (freestyle and combat can use closed guard).
Those leglocks look awesome. It'd be good to know how you train that stuff actively without people getting their knees busted.
