Was the tournament always this small? I was surprised it ended when it did.

No, it was very disappointing. Sambo is always small but, last year we had 60 people. I think the east coast judo championships being the same weekend had a lot to do with it. We did not know about that when we initially reserved the place. By the time we found out, it was tough to change course. Live and learn I guess. I already have some new ideas for next year.

I had that feeling that the ECJC might have been a draining factor. I would've gone there if I hadn't gone there last year to watch.

P.S.- Sucks that the RexPlex closed down doesn't it?

By the way, Steve, where are you from?

The problem with SAMBO is lack of freedom of maneauvers. Such is the appeal of freestyle submission even over BJJ tournaments. I think Combat SAMBO needs to start tournaments like the Pankration guys and go up and down the respective coasts.

Yep, Rexplex closing does suck for sure. I am from Astoria, Queens.

Omega, please explain what you mean by lack of freedome of maneauvers. We will be getting more combat sambo up and running. We will be starting a 2007 freestyel and combat sambo league with small, inhouse club challenges every other month.

Here are some vids from the event.
