You know, I know some of these comments keep new members away and that's just shameful. I've been lurking around enough to understand this, so I don't get insulted easily, and though the bulk of my study is in Muay Thai I do have some "enrichment" classes (so to say) in Krav Maga so I wanted to see why people hate it so much.

Because many people use it as an excuse not to do any actual fighting?
You can't make people smarter. You can expose them to information, but your responsibility stops there.

Because RBSD has meddled with the fundamental laws of nature Mr. Beal, and RBSD will ATONE!
People often tell me that I fail to see the gravity of the situation.
I see the gravity, and I say...

Step right up folks and watch me defy gravity!

I don't "hate" RBSD exactly, but here are some common nuances I've noticed with RBSD proponents.

    1) They tend to be fat and out of shape.

    2) They tend to make excuses for #1 because "a real fight won't last long" and other BS.

    3) They tend not to spar or do any kind of regular, contact work, because "it develops bad habits" and the like.

    4) They tend to sneer at "sports fighters". Granted, some sportsfighters are probably sneer-worthy, but listening to some fat SOB insult a well-conditioned athlete's fighting skills when said RBSD dude has never "stepped up" to the ring is annoying.

    5) They tend to be "text book" fighters in that they learn from seminars, books, and (maybe) a good instructor, but again they never or rarely spar/fight/roll, and yet consider their training and skills superior to every other type of training.

    6) One name: Phil Elmore -- who is pretty much guilty of all of the above and likes to runs his mouth alot.

Now, every stereotype has their exceptions. I'm also sure we could all put together a similar list for each stereotype. (TMA guys, Ninjas, and yes, BJJ Nutriders, for example). An RBSD guy that is in good shape, spars/rolls regularly and cross-trains would likely be well-respected here. Strangley, I'm not sure we've come across any -- I can't think of any off-hand, anyway.

If you've been lurking so much, why did you feel the need to start a :beatdead: thread?

You obviously do get insulted easily... "**** you too"? This is the internet, normal laws of social interaction don't apply. Relax, I know nothing about you, you're just a handle on a forum and a few lines of text to me. So be true to your word, and don't take it personally.

I don't know, I've never really encountered. I can honestly say that my instructor looks a little out of shape, and likes to mouth off about other styles, but he;s just incredibly good technicly, very strong and very fast.
But me, for instance, I'm not muscular, but definetly not fat. I used to be fatter, however I've only gotten thinner in the motivation of being better in MA.
The only seminar I've done outside of school was a Muay Thai seminar.
And yes, most of the techniques in our KM class are about testies, nasal bone, eyes and hair. We generally practice it, however I'm not sure as to the "aliveness" of the matter...

Because, when for instance we do a headlock escpa,e it includes a balls-hit, followed by an eye strike. So what we usually do is after giving ourselves to a headlock, we mark the thie (sp) and then pull the hair. Take that as an example. However in stuff that make pressure on more sensitive joints like the neck's, we still do it but we're always wanred to not make too much pressure, so we never take that "too deadly to spar" excuse, ever.

Also it mixes some groundfighting, so that usually does get some sparring in more speed and power.

So do you still think my school is RBSD, ****, honestly?
