How much time passed between when you met him as a 1st dan and when you met him as a 4th dan? and how much time should it take for a 1st dan to reach 4th dan in Tae kwon do? I would guess anywhere from 4 years at least, giving a year + for each rank(pay to play) to 8 years at most. but probably even more if it was from Okinawa, which should have a more elaborate time-table for it's ranking system than the bb factories around here. if this is the case there would need to be a minimum of 4 to 6 years in between meeting him for the tiger to actually hold the rank of fourth dan in anything.
I met him as a 1st Dan somewhere around 95'ish maybe 96. The next time I met him when he had his own school under the Tai Gi Gaku whatever it was about '97. So no more than 2 years tops.

Now I can't remember if he was wearing a 4th Dan when he had his first school though. But he did have it under his own system which a lot of us thought was a bit "questionable". That school didn't last long at all....he closed it and I didn't hear about him for a while (maybe 2 years) or so. He then started training a bit over at Pittmans. He wasn't there but a few weeks though. He then quit coming and bam he opens up a new school in a very choice location. At that point he was a 4th dan So that was somewhere around 2000. So basically he went from a 1st Dan in Karate to a 4th Dan in his own system in less than 5 years. Even by TKD standards that is VERY short! And everyone here knows how fast you can move up the dan ladder in TKD.

i started taekwon do in 1990 at 7 years old and received my second dan in the summer of 2001 at the age of 17/18. Though I took a year or more off during that time due to breaking my hip and having to work back from that.

IF i had not quit after receiveing my second dan it would have taken me from 1st dan - 4th. approx 9 years at earliest oppurtunity. - i.e. my tkd does not come from "black belt factory" fyi... ;p
