    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    JUst back for a few kicks!

    And I saw this article written by Aeosipian. It was well written. But, I that isn't going to save it from my smart @ss comments. In the aforementioned article Aeo mentions the rules: Basic Rules

    * No striking, punching or kicking.
    * No eye gouging or hair pulling.
    * No twisting or grabbing fingers.
    * No slamming (picking someone up and dropping them).
    * No heelhooks (twisting the foot or knee).
    * No neck cranks.
    And all of these rules just so why the hell BJJ is as much BUllshido as anything else. Because if I reach up and jerk out your freaking EYE all the Omplatas ( or Umpalumpas or whatever) aren't going to protect you!
    1 ONCE AND FOR ALL: BJJ= rehashed Judo with Latino MAchismo
    2And pulling gaurd on the concrete is a last resort not a prefered position.
    3 And the mount may give you the advantage over whoever you are on top of but it also gives his buddy a stationary target ( your head!) to punt! Remember the mount is your horse!
    4 No one wears a FRIGGIN' GI and BJJ seems to be heavily reliant on one.
    5 Brazil's main exports are fine looking women and soccer players.

    Look kiddies, this is how you feed a troll:

    1) Yes and no. Certainly there are similarities between Judo and BJJ as they both share a common heritage, however there are a number of significant differences.

    Things BJJ has that Judo doesn't:
    * Standing guard passes
    * Much heavier emphasis on open guards (Spider, X-Guard, De La Riva, Butterfly, et. al) which is partially a symptom of one opponent being allowed to be off the ground.
    * No emphasis on bizarre pins. For example--if I were in a crucifix in Judo, I would technically be pinning the other person. Another example of this is a reverse triangle from side-control, but there are numerous others.
    * More emphasis on patience (whether you consider this good or bad).
    * Less injuries (YMMV).
    * No gi practice as well as gi practice.
    * More technical in regards to the ground game. I'll probably get reemed for this point, but BJJ players are generally far more technical on the ground than Judo players.

    2) No BJJ player thinks pulling guard is the best idea in a street fight.

    3) Same thing applies if he's on top of you and you don't know how to escape.

    4) People don't wear a gi, but they do wear clothes. Sure there are gi-specific crazy moves in Jits, but there's plenty of **** that works without a gi too.

    5) Agreed.

    All competitive full contact pursuits have rules to protect the opponents.

    Do you really do those styles? If so here are some examples from what you'd know:

    Boxing: no rabbit punches or groin punches, biting, no sticking thumb in the other guys eye etc.

    Wrestling: cant krank or use fish hooks, head butt, strike etc. Same for Judo.

    So whats your point?

    Judo also has stuff that BJJ doesnt and Judo can be practised in a no-gi way too. A judoka can specialise in newaza but competitions only grant limited time on the ground so it is best to be well rounded...

    I did some research into the historic link from Judo to BJJ. Mitsuyo Maeda taught Kodokan Judo to the Gracies. He just called it juijitsu.

    Probably best not to hijack this troll thread with research though heh.
