(Notice i did not say effective)
Took my level two test in Krav yesterday. Close to five hours pretty much non-stop. Dizzy, sick....bruised up. Aikido is great when your old and your body can no longer take such a beating. You just sit around and spurt about how violence is destructive and that you would just do this and that if attacked, hell your sensei told you. You bow and fall politley and nobody tried to break you in two....in another thirty years....can't wait to sign up

I've done some reading on Aikido, and apparently Ueshiba (the founder) said that Aidido was 99% atemi - which is striking.

All the fancy tosses, etc are designed to be used _after_ you've pummeled the guy first.

I think this is why most aikido is not 'effective' - they don't train the striking to make the tossing work.

oh, i think aikido is very effectuve when combined with some agression and striking...but many (not all) dojo and aikidoka prefer to atemi baskets in their basket weaving classes

That sums up my aiki 3rd kyu grading, except it was only 45 minutes to an hour long.

yeah....there was a three hour review, which ended up longer and an hour and a half test, which also ended up longer...and when you are not hitting or doing self-defense techniques...you are holding a pad or attacking........and then groundfighting techniques....thankfully krav doesn't f-around with submissions. Just try to fight your way up...higher levels get more fancy. If i had to slap a triangle on someone after four hours...i think i'd just collapse.

Sounds about like my Orange Belt test.
And that's when I figured out that tears couldn't make somebody who was dead alive again. There's another thing to learn about tears, they can't make somebody who doesn't love you any more love you again. It's the same with prayers. I wonder how much of their lives people waste crying and praying to God. If you ask me, the devil makes more sense than God does. I can at least see why people would want him around. It's good to have somebody to blame for the bad stuff they do. Maybe God's there because people get scared of all the bad stuff they do. They figure that God and the Devil are always playing this game of tug-of-war game with them. And they never know which side they're gonna wind up on. I guess that tug-of-war idea explains how sometimes, even when people try to do something good, it still turns out bad.

I think sometimes wristlocks are good for controlling people, but Aikido is the gayest load of bs ever to be pulled out of some idiot's ass.

cyrijl: Coold. The level two test is tough, especially because you don't really know what to expect when going into it. I will be testing for level 3 sometime within the next month or so, and I am told that it's actually easier. That is, the test itself is harder than the first one, but you know what you're getting yourself into, and can adequately prepare.
