    Dojo Reviews

I just added a new component to my website (which is a joomla CMS). so that I can do dojo reviews. I plan to start it out as reviews from my students who check out other dojos on vacation or on a whim. I may open it up later to a broader audience. I am having trouble with what criteria to have them vote on. I know one would be aliveness, class size, level of instruction. Any ideas?

When I look at a school, I always try to pay attention to how good the average students are.

There are some people who will be good regardless of what and how they are taught and there are other people who will suck regardless of the quality of instruction. But most people fall into the middle, and these are the people who will benefit most from reading these kinds of reviews.

I know some people want to train at a certain gym because there are some really good fighters from that gym. The question I always have is: What makes you think that you can be made into one? If the elite people at a school are good but everyone else is just sort of blah, that, in my mind, wouldn't be a good school for most people.

We're actually working on a similar thing so we can leverage the size of the Bullshido community. You can check it out here:

    www.bullshido.net/dojoreview

We'll be formally launching it later this summer.

    Looks good.

Will it include all previous reviews?

It also looks like there's a semi-set format. Will that be the case.

How our system works is this:

    1. The "School"/Product is entered into the system, with pics, etc.

    2. The review is attached to the school.

We're eventually going to add fields for rating Aliveness, etc, but they have to be custom coded.

Are we going to put a lot of focus into this? I know the old reviews section has sort of lost a lot of its luster as most of the site's activity is in the forums these days.

If this proves successful I'll try to spend some time and add a few reviews.

Yeah, we're going to be making a big push for it a few weeks after we fully launch the politics/pop-culture sister site.

The rewiew is attached to the school, how? I'm not sure I fully understood that, but then again I'm computer st00pid. Anyone care to explain that to me? Cause it sound like a kewl Idea...

You post a school or product, including pictures, if there isn't one already for said school or product. Then the "reviews" are posted as replies to that product.

Essentially it would be like posting a thread about Black Belt Bob's Bujinkan Black Belt Bonanza, with pictures and general (non-review info), and all the responses to the first post in that thread would be reviews of the school.
