He never actually trained in it. He just wore the dobok because he admittedly thought you needed one to be taken seriously. In an interview he said he heard about a school in canada that was trying to send someone to the UFC. So he showed up, challenged the guy and won. The terms were that if he won they'd give him the money they were using for their guy, a 4th degree blackbelt, and a uniform. This was an independant school not affiliated with the WKSA.

Yes, my previous school did some (still in the dipped foam pads though with a face cage) so that we learned what it was like to get knocked around.

Your previous KSW school ? ... I hope your not talking about your time in aikido or TKD ... TKD or aikido with face cages is too weird to ponder for any length of time .

No, I trained in one school, then I moved so I had to go to a new school. I haven't been present for the sparring this one does because I can only go up a few times a month to train (it's 75 miles away). So I go in, work on what I know so it gets corrected, learn new stuff, then go home and work on it on my own and with another guy until the next time I come in. I do my sparring with a guy here in town. I'm also going to start cross training at an MMA gym here after we get back from a vacation in August.

lol...nah, i really do think the rule is there because lots of styles had similar clauses way back when. now, as far as I know, no one cares that much.

On serious note. I thought that the fluffy pink fans (ones KSW use) were mainly used by gi seng (historically) and yangban class had the normal thinner and white color fans. And metal framed fans used as weapon were more similiar to iron fans used in chinese kung fu and not the fluffy pink ones like gi seng used to use. Since male/female yangban or even female bodyguard cohorts walking around with fluffy pink fan would raise attention rather than more of black iron fan type.

I believe that is the case as well. None of the fans I have are fluffy or frilly, but then, I'm not a gisaeng.
