Basically it turned out as I expected. I still feel that as an art, Kuk Sool is solid. As I stated earlier though, I do feel that most schools need to add A LOT more contact/alive drills. The videos you saw are proof of that. As evidence, I know how to strike, and I know how to defend against strikes. However, if you watch me in any of the videos where it's striking (especially against AnnaT) I show that in a contact environment (not to mention being gassed) I forgot what I "knew."

So, I did about as well as I expected given my lack of contact training, but I feel that Kuk Sool is still a solid art if this is added to the mix. Like I've said before, and is the same with many other "TMAs" the problems lie in the schools more than the art itself.

I didn't see the temper flare like most blackbelts do when they get tooled outside of their system .

I am pretty sure I saw you doing some guard passes ( KSW teaches ancient Korean Guard Passes ? ) .

There is a ground fighting set of techniques I haven't gotten yet, but my guard passing came from a little BJJ training....or was it my copy of the MYDTJ? :)

Also Der, could you answer a question for me: Korea spent most of it's history trying not to be conqured by China and Japan, could you please tell me when the last time this country was fully independent of either of them was?

While it was a tributary state to China at several points in time in it's history (meaning they paid China so as not to have China invade), Korea has on several occasions kicked out the Japanese, the Chinese, and the Mongols.

In fact, the last Japanese occupation of Korea is thanks in small part to that guy named Teddy Rosevelt.

Thanks Der, and really? Teddy? How'd he manage that? I'm always up for learning some new facts about history. Seems t'be the only subject I consistantly do good at.

I can't remember the details, but there was some treaty or deal where he agreed to support the Japanese "annexation" of Korea in return for something.

There was actually a large segment of Korean American immigrants during this time attempting to bring the plight of the Korean people to the public eye, and of course, failing. It's a little known fact that there were guerilla training camps for Korean Americans who wished to work for the liberation of their home country.

Huh, well, learn somethin' new every day.

Like the battle in Alaska during WWII or that the Great White Fleet tried to keep the Bolsheviks from winning their war against the rest of Russia.

It's also kind of amusing Japan and Korea's attitudes to each other since in it's early history Japan invited MANY Koreans and Chinese to live there because they had a writting system and could teach the Japanese writting and religion (correct me if i'm wrong on that account)
