The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

Hell, if I was flexible enough I would do headkicks all the time. I can't even touch my toes.

My opinion is no, not really.

High kicks are to some extent high risk moves. If you have the flexibility then yes they can work. If your fighting in a kickboxing or karate tournament where only striking rules apply, I would use them. But if your up against a grappler like a Judo player or a wrestler then high kicks are a bad idea. Its just too easy to get taken down.

In a self defense situation I would not use high kicks. No way. Again for the same reason all someone has to do is charge in,clinch, push you and you'll end up on the floor. Remember high kicks leave you off balanced.

I often spar with grapplers and avoid being taken down even though I use high kicks, you just gotta time them correctly.

Head kicks are fine if you're not afraid of the glava.
