The HapKiDo I was taught always started from a wrist grab. Either cross grab or parallel. See Rorion didn't grab his wrist, so he was cheating. Also, like Don pointed out, he was moving. How can you be expected to execute a complicated wrist lock when the guy keeps moving towards you? Damn!
Is Wayne Brady gonna have to choke a bitch?

If you ever get in a fight, a guy charging at you might not stop and grap your wrist/grab his. The dojang I go to has Hapkido, when they practice the locks they grap the wrists..but not grappling. Tho, I can see if you mean, fighting by their rules how they start out, but, I don't think thats a standard? Dude got pwnd...makes me want to take BJJ so much more...

this still does not mean hapkido is in effective what are the chances of a hapkido guy actually getting into a life or dath situation with bjj master.

the average hapikioist can beat the average person thats all that matters

Exactly, so when you are the 1 in 1000 who gets attacked by someone with superior size, skill, etc. instead of a retarded midget with one arm, you can blame your terrible luck and not the shitty training you wasted all those years on.

    Brilliant strategy... bravo!

    No, it always matters.

This doesn't mean it can't very often be overcome.

Are you serious? You always need to take into account the size of your opponent. It would be very dangerous not to.

    That's awesome.

Why would the Hapkido guy actually go to the ground on his own for the 3rd one?

Because he was trying to use the deadly leg scissors takedown from the ground.
