I've seen traditional Bagua Zhang fighters compete in full contact without having to compromise their style. They don't bounce or try and adopt a boxing stance, they keep to the very traditional Bagua stance.

These guys are awesome, there's a guy i've been trying to contact for ages, maybe one of you guys knows him, he's called Zhang Shueh, he is one of the greatest fighters Bagua has ever created. When he fights, you can tell instantly that it's Bagua Zhang that he's doing, his moves, counters etc... are performed all within the Bagua circle...very impressive dude.

As for the fella doing Bagua in the clip, yea i can see how it might be Bagua, but IMHO it looks a little like he tried to fuse Bagua principles with TKD or something. Just my take on it.

I can't find Zhang Shueh on the net, i want video clips!! Anybody help?

I think the bagua guy did a fairly reasonable job considering the rules and his obviously mediocre skill level.

Fighting Spirit is 90% of the battle. If you don't have it, you ain't **** -- regardless of what style you practice.

    RobP,

Of course it doesn't cut it against boxers! Because boxers have near-REALULTIMATEPOWER! Third behind Pirates and Ninjas.

Speaking of boxing... If you watch closely, you can see that near the end of the fight, the Bagua guy starts to lose the deep stance, open hand waving thing, and closes his fists, pulls them in closer to his body and shortens and raises his stance.

You're almost right Crimson - boxers have REAL power as opposed to fantasy power.
Just the other day I was watching a tape from China which showed lots of different styles. One was a young girl performing some routine, with the commentary saying about how "even one punch could kill!".....

Come, play with some kyukoshin or Muay Thai boys, or even one of the japanese jujutsu artists I know. Then tell me about fantasy power?

Don't mistake propaganda for the art. I'm quite sure there are more than a few KF artists who could kick a boxer's ass. Just neither of the two in this particular clip. LOL!

This "Bagua" guy did the Bagua stepping at first, but degenerated into kickboxing. He sucked, and got whomped.

He didn't "denegrate" into kickboxing. *chuckle* He realized the crappy fighting stance and hand positioning he was using were allowing him to get hit and thrown and keeping him from hitting back with any real power. So he brought his stance to something more natural and closed his fists and pulled them in closer to his body (still wouldn't call it a boxing stance) so he'd at least be able to generate some power in his punches.

If he'd a fought that way from the start, he'd a done much better.

    "Denegrate" Sheesh.
