    Hell yeah! Hell no!
I currently train at a Kung Fu San Soo school. I have heard a lot of criticism of many San Soo schools as McDojos. I have studied in TKD, but while my instructor was obviously very skilled and formidable, I was not impressed by the classes and sparring was a joke. Seeing as how I have such little expertise in the martial arts, I am somewhat weary of being involved in a bullshit McDojo situation without even knowing it.

The studio I attend has an emphasis on techniques that will be effective on the street AKA quick, brutal, suitable for multiple attackers with or without weapons. The two teachers are an undercover narcotics officer and an LA detective. The San Soo that is taught teaches you to fight from your feet so you can take on multiple attackers, but if you are taken to the ground, it also teaches techniques there. I train for six hours a week, mostly consisting of one on one or more sparring with higher belts and instructors teaching techniques in that context. For more complicated techniques such as joint locks, leverages, and throws, the master will demonstrate on various students in a sort of loose lecture. From this information, does it sound like a McDojo? Is there other information I could use to tell?

Thanks in advance and good luck with your training.

Ask if they charge for belt testing (usually they don't). Don't sign a contract(most ss places don't have them). Look for a picture of your master with Jimmy, if he's a 1st gen.

There are abundant pictures of my master with Jimmy, and no, there is no charge for belt tests. I pay monthly.

I have plenty of beef with KFSS, those wanna-be SCARS practitioners.

First of all, I'm not your friend.

    Second, welcome to the Forums.

Third, I know SCARS is a cheap rip-off. Take it easy bud, just givin' brandeissansoo some ribbing.

    Fourth, now you're my bud.
