Where Do You Live, and What MA is Taught There...

Pinellas Park, Florida - a couple of Okinawan places (Uechi-Ryu), 1 Shotokan school, 1 Kenpo school, a coupke of Muay Thai places, 1 gracie school, and a couple of MMA, also 1 Arnis school, but they combine it with TKD which makes their Arnis really suck. Lastly we have a bunch of TKD schools which bring our property values down low.

I live in SE England, and near me we have mainly Karate (of widely different capabilities), a large Japanese Jiu Jitsu club with several centres, Judo, three or four Wing Chun clubs, another Kung Fu club, only one TKD place that I know about and a submission wrestling club.

Hell if I know. However, I will say this, the largest martial arts cult has to be the Universal Kempo organization. You see their little red stickers affixed to motor vehicles everywhere. From what I've seen on cable access of the system, it's laughable and tragic.

*Are there any unique/uncommon martial arts offered in your area besides the normal TKD/Karate/etc, including MMA/NHB fight teams?

Small circle ju-jitsu (interesting but impracticable), kajukenbo (absolute garbage), Cajun karate (some weird karate cult that fights for Jesus). As for MMA/NHB fight teams, Egan Inoue runs 'Grappling Unlimited' out of Aiea. http://www.grapplingunlimited.com/Default.asp He's the guy that got K.O.'d recently half a minute into the 1st round of a SuperBrawl match. Many people in attendance I heard were pretty bummed about that. Egan used to be a phenomenal racquetball player before he took up NHB. He even designed his own racquet, the E-Force, which never failed to break apart after a couple of months of play. <img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>

*If you had to guess (unless you know for some reason) what percentage of people in the general community in your area are active participants in the martial arts?

If I would have to guess, it's probably very low, but that's pretty much the norm anywhere you go in the world. Most people can't fight, even if they insist they can.

I am currently residing at the Richland County Correctional Institute in SC. We have many fighting styles inside "the joint", although I prefer just shanking people and getting it over with.

I actually do live in SC. We have maybe 2 TKD schools here in town, and one Karate school.

I don't get even I get "stabby"

I live in Marina, CA, a good hour's drive from San Jose. It's a part of the Monterey Bay area, with Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel, Seaside, Salinas, Prunedale, and, to an extent, Watsonville and Capitola.

We have mainly TKD, from the huge Korean population, but we have one dedicated hapkido school, a Shotokan school of which I have NO idea where it is, two jujutsu schools, four aikido dojos, to my knowledge ONE judo club, and one kung-fu class, which shares the building with my aikido class and a TKD class.

Both of the jujutsu schools offer iaido, and one also offers courses in taijutsu. There's also a capoeiria class somewhere in the area, but I've only seen posters and never bothered to actually check up on it.

Just on a guess... I think 5-10% of the area's population is into MA. This is mainly because Monterey, PG, and Carmel are retirement neighborhoods, but I can't say much about the rest of the area.

My skill with a sword is formidable. My skill with the s-word is flat-out lethal.

I live in Mexico, way up north.

I'd say TKD 50%, Limalama 20%, Karate 10%, Thai Box 10%, Kung Fu 9%, BJJ, Judo, Aikido 1%.
Boxing is pretty strong here among the "low class status" people and Wrestling. (They can stab you or smash your face, you choose.)

Wing Chun, Eskrima, Capoeira, Tajiquan.

Community meaning neighborhood i'd say like 1 or 2%.

Kalispell, MT (where the hell is that you say?) About 60 miles from Canada, and 50 miles from Idaho.

Schools come and go up here, so accuracy isn't easy. There's a big TKD school on main street that sucks in just about 2/3's of the stuents I'd say. There's an JJ school, Judo, Aikido, Shotokan, Shorinryu (that's me), several MMA's, and some idiot that just moved in and advertising not one, but GUARANTEED 2 BLACKBELTS IN TWO DIFFERENT STYLES IN 15 MONTHS! ARGH!!!

There used to be a "Montana Freestyle" group up here a few years ago, but I had a hand in putting them out of business. They wetre charging for uniforms and weapons, and never delivering! I exposed them for what they were (phoney as hell) and htey left the area shortly afterwards. :o)
The closest to fight teams that I've seen are the TKD people that do a lot of Olympic-style tournaments. Also, there's a grappling school that puts on fights periodically (I havent' gone to one yet) advertised as submission, full contact bouts.

I have no idea, but it's low. 5% MAYBE? People up here don't worry much about personal fighting ability. We're all to armed to the teeth! lol

Davie, Broward County, Florida (Permanent residence)
Miami, Dade County, Florida (Dormitory)

In Broward it's mostly TKD, Karate, some "Kung Fu", and some Judo places as well as a smattering of XYZ academies. In Hollywood beach however there are so many kinds of styles in a concentrated strip of land.

In Dade county there is anything you can imagine. There are even some alleged tough TKD schools.
