Store owner who chased robber won't be charged

VICTORIA (CP) - A grocery store owner accused of beating an armed woman who was trying to rob his store will not be charged with assault. Crown counsel reviewed the case and determined that Felix Lum did not use excessive force considering the circumstances, said Victoria police Insp. Phyllis Senay. Cheryl Ethel Green pleaded guilty to armed robbery and was sent to jail for two months after the incident at Lum's grocery store in late January.

Green, who was highly intoxicated at the time, entered the grocery store wearing pantyhose over her face and brandishing two knives. Lum, a former Hong Kong auxiliary police officer with martial arts experience, grabbed a broom and chased her out of the store. At one point, Green turned to face Lum and raised one of the knives above her shoulder. Lum, who said he was trying to knock the knives out of her hand, was accused of hitting the woman with the broomstick, breaking her forearm and her nose.

In court, Green's lawyer said his client had suffered a brutal beating.

Now being that I am one of those stylistic idiots who speak out of emotion, I am just wondering, where in this article does it say the man was Korean or that he was a martial artist? He said he had martial art experience, most likely the h2h that he learned in the police academy. So if anything, he would have learned a "SCARS" like system.

i think this means he's a MArtist. however, u do have a good point it doesn't specifically say he's korean. i do't think koreans can survive in HK unless they learn cantonese. i knwo lum is a cantonese name.

Lum is definetly not a common Korean last name. They say they have martial art experience, but in that same breath, so do police officers in our own nation. However, it is a h2h course that they take. Not so much a certain style or system.

Most Hong Kong police officers do train in martial arts,as part of their training. It is more extensive than the basic h2h courses that most poice agencies use around the world.

The grocer was definitely Cantonese. One more sign of KF's ignorance. All Asians probably look alike to him. SCARS feeds on that kind of bigotry.

I've read much about SCARS, and have yet to see any kind of evidence of this stament you have made.
