I think JKD is a great transitional art for ex-boxers,ex-wrestlers, and ex-karateka.However,any good wing chun guy knows too much sensitivity stuff to play around with JKD,and JKD will just mess up your circuits. In my view,ex-wingtsun guys should go str8 to thai and submission.

You could be right about that. I did BJJ before, then WT, and now back to BJJ. This sounds stupid and it was, but I couldn't find a BJJ school in my area after I moved. Fortunately, WT did teach me several good concepts which I use in BJJ -

    1. Always try to apply forward pressure directly at my opponent when I have the chance. I found that this lets me transition into submissions much quicker.

    2. Never just flop into the guard. I usually only do this as a defense measure when the guy I am rolling with is a real beast and either just pushes me over or I need to work from the guard to wear him out a bit.

good jkd is just submission fighting/MMA (most JKD places are good.) If they don't have a fight team then I;d get a little worried (I mean if the teacher doesn't even compete (roflmfao lol).)

I don't know if Finn still competes reguarly. I know he did do Shooto reguarly and he also works out and rolls/spars with anyone up to it.

It isn't a requirement for a school to have a fight team in order to be considered "good".

I have no idea. I would like to do some stuff competetively though. Keep in mind BJJ is still very young here. Shooto is non-existent.

You might want to ask your instructor to organize a "fight night" every other week or so, for intra-school competition. For outside competition, maybe take the initiative and look for MMA schools around your area, talk to your instructor about organizing a regular event.

This is exactly what I said I wanted to do in the thread posted yesterday about Bukkido(sp) vs JKD. I will tell you later today once I talk with him.

I know my school has a JJ team, but that is not my cup of pee.
