Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog

How far does a neck crank have to go before it does serious damage? I've been wondering about those lately...

i don't know, but i guess it depends on how flexible you are. i actually hope, for ur safety, you are NOT [naturally] flexible like thos guiness ppl! cuz being "stiff" is a defense mechanism for resisting being stretched. now if u "earned"that flexiblity, then its a different story. if u didn't earn ur limberness and get neck cranked, my guess is u might hurt ur spine.

Submit: To yield to the action, control, power, etc of another or others (Or) To be submissive, obedient, humble etc.

This is according to Webster's New World
I would say that any time I bring someone to the point that they say "stop", they tap or are just DONE...whether or not in a few minutes they can continue...They have at that time "submitted" or "been my bitch"

well "submission" in BJJ is a martial arts jargon. its not the same as the dictionary one. the dicitonary one is the WWE one. in WWE if they don't tap, nothing happens but pain. in WWE, the purpose of a submission is to make somoene submit.

BJJ just happens to use the same word cuz they seem alike, even tho a submision in BJJ the goal is ultmately to cause damaage, not to make a pereson submit.

    LOL, okkkkkk
I don't know where you train, but have you ever been to a tournament? Do you train BJJ? The word submission means exactly what it means, whether you’re talking to Webster, or Royce Gracie.

And if your training where the ultimate goal is to **** someone up, then your school wouldn't even be able to compete with the rest of us. When BJJ, or JJ originated, just like any other Martial art yes, they were meant to maim or kill. However, I don't know of any BJJ schools (including Machado/Gracie) that advocate, damaging your partner or your opponent. Plus, you would be thrown out of any legitimate competition.

First off, if you go into most Gracie/Machado/Fabio Santos place & roll with their people & don't tap, they would probably kick your dumbass out the door.
And NO, in general unless you have a select asshole in the school, they don't just snap your arm because you don't tap, but they would probably rufuse to train with you again.

One last thing, "because I'm a woman & I have to say everything or I will explode"

To not tap while competing or training is just plain stupid! What's the point? To break something? Pull something? Not be able to train for months or longer while it heals?? That doesn't even make sense. Watch the UFC, watch Pride, Vale Tudo, ADCC matches or JJ from Japan, if they get an armbar, or any other sub & the other guy doesn't tap, they eiher hold it or move to a different position, they don't rip the guys arm off..sigh, you guys crack me up

I didn't tap ONE TIME ONLY. Got caught in a sleeve choke while I was in a guys gaurd. I had beat this guy everytime we rolled, he got pissed & I got stupid. He had me & I knew it, but thought I could get out. Next thing I knew, I was waking up. I had to go to the Dr with bleeding behind my eye sockets, broken blood vessels all over my face & both eyes black. It sucked, I would never be that stupid again

i train w/ jake shields (beat sakurai) and cesar gracie.

if a member doesn't tap, somethingwill happen. ppl have passed out before, and bones have been broken (at ralphs i knwo at least...my friend was unfortunate to break someone's arm and he's not comfortable talking about it). how did this happen if their goal was to make someone tap? so yes, ur goal is to do damage.

BJJ, just like in boxing, ur goal is to do the ultamite thing (in boxing, its KO), not go for decision, score points, or "hit the targets on the body". of course when its just training u go light. but ur training for the KO.

u just contradicted urself. assuming what u say is true about if even in professional competition that a person doesn't go to the poitn of breaking something, then there is absolutely NO reason to tap since the person would let go the hold. but earlier the paragraph, u said u do risk breaking someting if u dont' tap. so u contradicted urself.

i don't htink u've seen enough MMA. frye's arm broke from not tapping. many, many ppl have passed out from chokes. many ppl don't tap when pouinded, and their ego gets them knocked out (gnp submission). one of the gracies had their shoulder popped out from a keylock.

and btw, i NEVER seen someone switch a submision in a pro fight cuz the guy woudlnt' tap. neeevvveeeer if u've seen this in practice (not professional fighting of course) this is cuz the person is "playing" w/ the other guy.
