little over five years in JKD (personal study) and about a year and a half in Shim Shin-Do

no such thing as a best style since one never stops learning.

When I was a kid I did about a year of Hapkido. About a decade later at age 22 I took up Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. I trained with a bunch of different Bujinkan instructors in Sydney over the next six years. Last year I started doing a combined grappling class which uses wrestling, some JJJ throws and takedowns, some catch and BJJ plus anything else which works. Shortly after I took up Shooto which has me doing the same sort of stuff as grappling but adding muay thai and boxing drills and strikes. I also do BJJ.

I also suck at all the above. :laughing9

As for the best martial art? I would go with the general opinion of the board and say MMA. I believe it covers you well for more things than any other style.

i started out doin tkd in the caribbean an some boxin at the local good ole boys & girls club spot as a kid on through to the late teens

got stationed in va, couldnt find a decent tkd school amidst the plague of mainland american mc-dojangs so i started doin TSD at this cool spot in va. beach. that spot also did Kum-do an hapkido courses. also did hapkido with a Gandmaster Kim in hampton.

think i found a cool tkd school in norfolk, but quit after i beat up the higher rankin BBs even though i was a rusty didnt-train-for-a-year kool's cigarette smoking, hard liquor binge boy

got stationed in hawaii an attempted to learn capoiera but that didnt work out cuz i aint got no rythym which is wierd cause im a soul-brotha

currently out here in okinawa doin hapkido an some jujutsu. on the verge of converting to kyukoshin soon as they lift our curfew/off-base priveleges lol

my best experience was with hdk grandmaster Kim.

I was in a mcdojo karate school. But i continued to learn because though the teaching sucked, the teacher was badass(tough mother fucker, faster then anyone i have ever seen, punches faster and harder then any boxer id seen, and cross trained in judo)
At some point i said i wanted to leave for something like muay thai.

He said "muay thai? I know muay thai!"
Supposedly i was learning muay thai, since he told me not to snap my kick and hit with the shin and he taugh a PATHETIC clinch.

Soon, after reading on MAP forums, i realized it was FAKE and he was teaching BULLSHIDO.
I left and then he closed the school.

My close friends dad taught uechi-ryu. I was going to go into boxing or muay thai but i found his dad taught some really good ****, infact he put imphasised clinching. Another surprise was that he taught some really basic ground grappling(i wont stand a chance against a BJJ guy, but it's enough to get back up)

    So here i am.
