Hmmm. Well, since weapons are even harder to train realistically than unarmed techniques, traditional weapon MAs are probably likely to be even more unrealistic than non-weapon based TMAs.

I did a bit of escrima, and I've seen a fair bit of it. It all involved a lot of _ing _unesque trapping and flow drills - not good.

However, you could go Dog Brothers' stylee. That, would be good.

I get the spirt of your comment and it is true, but not neccesarly obligatory for all weapons arts.

In LWS, we do have to take out single elements for safety to focus on the other elements. So a drill may be done several ways each emphasizing one aspect but taking another out for safety. They then synergize due to the overlap.

example: You may hit a #1 for power on a heavy bag (no partner). Then you may do it with a partner in a drill, proper distance but stop the hit on contact (no power). You may do it with a partner with power but five feet away for safety (no contact, no distance). You may do it with gloves and empty hand, for contact and free style (no weapon). You may isolate the movement on focus mitts (no weapon to force the technique itself to have power). etc..

Since LWS is redundant and transitions across all weapons and empty hand, this works. If for real you put it all together.

Traps and disarms are pretty funny. We do them just for diversity and fun, yet another way to learn about the figure 8 concept.....I mean to do a disarm, you have to hit them first!
