paralax19, stretching beyond what you're capable of now HURTS. You can minimize any damage and extra pain by warming up thoroughly and stretching slowly. But unless you are ready for a little pain, you won't stretch much. There are many methods, solo and partner, for both upper an lower body. There are tons of cheap and good books out there and almost any of them will do. Mostly they will advise you to stretch when warm and hold the stretch for long periods, then gradually increase. You don't really need a guru from the back of Black Belt Magazine.

Most of the books i've seen on flexability just kinda say, do this if your in this sport else if your in this sport do this etc etc. what i was looking for was a book/website on flexability, that really explained it rather than just giving exercises. As i've read quite a few contradictory things in bad books on stretching and i figured if the author explains the subject then they must have some knowledge of the subject matter.
And for the record i dont read black belt magazine!

Thomas Kurz is the man when it comes to stretching.
His methods are safe and DO work.
However, note that the amount of stretching he recommends to be able to do the splits in 3 months is MASSIVE.
If you chose to do it, you really wouldn't have time for anything else!

    Its worth buying his book.

Pavel Tsatsouline is the other 'stretch master' worth listening to. His ebook is worth the price:

Standard MT/kickboxing/MMA streching excersizes should do you fine.

Sometimes I think Blade is a robot programmed by Zuffa and Rickson Gracie to propagate MMA. We need to see if he passes a Turing test one of these days.

Two great posts in one day. I actually like this one better than the pesci post.

Of course you'll probably have to explain what a turing test is to non-science fiction fans.

Turing test, right. It was brought about in the early 50s by Alan Turing when he wanted to find out if machines could think, and is meant to discern whether a machine's intelligence is indistinguishable from that of a normal human. The general format has one questioner connected to one person and one machine and they ask both a set of questions, and then afterwards render their decision as to which is which (the human or the Blade--I mean, machine).
