    Hey!

These are some quetions that I could never really find an answer to, so im going to ask the "Tasteless" people at www.bullshido.com! Anyways here are my quetions. What is the Difference between Machado Jiu Jitsu and Gracie jiu jitsu. And what is the fighting style "Pancrase" (Not the Competition). I know what Vale Tudo is (The fighting style not the event). Thanks!

Machado's are cousins of the Gracies. I have no idea why they don't get along but I think its because the Machado's are a little bit more opened minded than the Gracies, from what I've seen.

Pancrase is a fighting system designed around the competition. Look up Matt Hume, Pancrase on Yahoo if you want more information.

Machado's seem to be more open minded on striking, as to where the Gracies think striking arts are useless. Of course I think they said that a few years back before they started losing to strikers.

    Cesar Gracie:

...From your back (you will be on your back because you havenít learned any wrestling and your opponent has) you vainly look for his lapel or sleeves to work with, but since there are none you quickly realize that your grappling game is not prepared for this. Even worse, unless youíre in complete denial, you come to terms that if strikes were being used you might need to reconsider your dental plan.

"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - for ever."
Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog

Pancrase the word is based on the Greek martial art of Pankration, which is basically the original Olympic wrestling. It actually included some striking. Good reading on Pankration can be found here: http://www.pankration.com/pankration_history.html

I seem to remember once Carlos not being too happy about the Graice habit of challenging (and defeating) other masters for the purpose of taking their students. I can't remember the exact words he said, but that was the impression that I got. To be honest though, while I have heard of the Gracies doing this, I never saw it myself. Then again, Carlos is a very honorable guy.

Also, as a side note, Emin gets along with the Machados. They both were in some "Walker Texas Ranger" episodes together.

Sifu Emin - Did you see that?
Me - (gasping) No, but I can't breathe yet.
