    Hey all,

This is my first post here. I was just wondering if I could get some opinions on the use of glucosamine for training purposes.

I hear it's really good for joints and cartilage, but I don't know if it's good for much else.

I have a bad knee, bone bruise and a miniscus tear, I have been taking Glucosamine and Chondroitin fro 2 months.

My knee is better, I ran a little last week weather that is due to time or the Gluco. *shrugs* who knows.

The doctor who looked at my said that the pills would not hurt anything, he wasn't sure they worked.
So, the ingreients are safe: Glucose mainly sugar, Chondroitin crushed shell fish.

More anecdotalevidence one of my friends is a long distance runner and he has been taking it a long time now.

Another thing that is supposed to be good for joints is MSM have not taken it though.

I overdose on liquid glucosomine. It maybe a placeba(sp) but it works for me.

Basically, the jury is still out. It never really showed any significant effects in clinical trials(except for an effect on insulin sensitivity)

exactly, placebo (again sp) or not, it seems to work for me. There are no scientific studies showing direct correlation to glucosomine sulfate and chondrotine as actually working.

On that point I haven't seen studies on flouride preventing tooth decay either.

I took glacosumine, but not with chondroitin, for a while for my knees. It did nothing. What's wrong with your knees? It's supposed to work well for arthritis, but I've a condition called Petala Famoral and it did jack **** for it.
But Gloc with chon might be better.

Glucosamine is one of the few 'sports supplements' on the markets that has returned SOME positive results from independent tests.
BUT, the major problem in proving it works is the fact that your 'joint problems' could be caused by any number of things.

It isn't a magic formula that will cure whatever problem you have.

Almost anyone that takes it gives the same answer - my [insert sore joint] felt a LITTLE better after taking it for a while.

Its cheap, and isn't suspected of causing short term or long term damage to your body. So it can't hurt to try it.
