Clean that Gi BJJ

But it certainly IS important to note that a clean gi means a happy grappling partner or a happy uke. There have been a couple of times in my karate class where I have gone WHEW!

I was my gi after each class (unless it was a very low impact class where I don't sweat much), and usually wash my belt once a week.

Ugh. One time I was rolling with this guy... Nice guy, but I think he had way overbleached his Gi (I hope! Please, God...). And as you may or may not know, stale bleach can smell a bit like urine...

At least I tapped him! ;)

actually this raises a question, normally i just wash my Gi with detergent(tide) after each practice(sometimes 2 if im busy or i'm lazy) and bleach it occasionally.. how often do you bleach the gi? and is there something else that can work better than bleach? (amniona, oxyclean etc?)

Hmm what if you'd never wash it at all... That might give you the edge you need.

my gi didn't smell until i washed it...now i hang it out after class and wash it when it smells, gets dirty, or some blood on it...blood?....yes blood

I've seen blood, a lot of it (my own), though I've never worn a gi...

But if you need expert advice in this too (what a ,,,), I can tell you that some 'nature friendy' washing powders contain stuff which makes your clothes smell like ****.

I'm not kidding, but sorry I can't remember the full name of the substance that does it... esp in English... (Phosphates..?) maybe not...

Here is an idea... hang your gi out in the sun to dry it. UV radiation is supposed to kill bacteria and stuff, a little dose of sunshine after a good wash might just be the thing to keep it spring fresh and not a bloody mess!
