Sweet video. That Judoka must be happy about that one.

But surely he should have used his devastating Atemi Waza techniques that are too deadly for the streets and (etc. etc. etc.)...

The Judoka Akiyama is actually a Korean that came to Japan. Notice his sleave has a Korean flag patch on it. ALso the fact he is stocky as hell and his head is huge (Korean for sure). Anyhow since Koreans are taught Tae Kwon Do in school for gym class and suchI am just guessing thats where he learned the spinning back kick for the win.

His family ancestry is Korean, he was born and raised in Japan. There is a sticking point as far as naturalization and citizenship with regards to people being born in Japan.

He learned the spinning back kick probably from his coach at the MMA he took to get ready for fighting in MMA. 100% Judo would get destroyed in MMA, just like any other 100% athlete.

I remember watching this on europsort, it was funny as hell, it was a purely kickboxing event and a judo-ka got to the final. Awesome SBK, right on the money.

(the judo-ka was listed as Korean in the version i watched.)
