It is illegal, but they make an exception for pants, otherwise how could you grab my legs?

Hey guys I'm running a marathon in a few weeks and I was looking through the rules and saw that there weren't any rules on dress (other than having to wear runner's booty shorts) and was considering wearing a weight vest while I ran.

    Watcha think?

    Possibly, hence my tactical advice.

It's nice how tolerant of people who know less than yourself you are.

    Point taken however.

The number of times I've had blue belts use their gi to their advantage is far outweighed by the number of times they have used my gi to their advantage.

White belts (or novice I guess) generally don't even know how to use their gi against their opponent.

If you have some huge advantage from maintaining a tight closed guard and need extra grip from sidemount, then maybe it would be a good idea. I'm leaning toward no-gi heavily, but you could always roll in class in a gi against a bunch of people without one and see how you faired.

I don't know what the first part has to do with anything, though the analogy was flawed. It should have been sprints, and in keeping with running a parachute.

Wearing the gi against someone that isn't offers you some limited submissions and maybe a little more traction. Other than that it will mainly be a bonus to your opponents by giving them grips and slowing you down.

By and large the ability of your opponents to ballistically excape submissions, as is often the norm in no-gi, will still be there.

If someone shows up to a NO-GI competition in a gi, I'd be willing to bet the refs will let some griping slide.

This is the no-gi rules for the next tourny i'm planning on attending (C3)

FOR NO-GI COMPETITION, COMPETITORS CAN WEAR THE FOLLOWING
    A. Shorts Shorts can not have any metal exposed that can cut a competitor or open
    pockets.
    B. T-Shirt Tight fitting t-shirts may be worn. If they are excessively loose, the
competitor will be made to change or take it off.
    C. Wrestling Singlet Any wrestling singlet is legal.
    D. Spandex Shorts or Shirts Any type of spandex shirt or short are legal as long as
there is no exposed metal that can cut another competitor.
    E. Kimono Pants Kimono pants will be allowed, but can be used against the competitor
    wearing them.
    F. Wrestling Shoes Wrestling Shoes are legal, but can be used against the competitor
    wearing them.

    naga rules:

At a minimum a groin protector, mouthpiece, and shorts with a drawstring must be worn, no pockets on the shorts

    Wrestling/Martial Arts shoes are allowed.

Anything a fight wears can be used against him/her during the match (Grabbing clothing for example) Women/Girls cannot use shirts for submission

Taping of hands, wrists and feet are not allowed

I should note that the guy I fought against at NAGA had taped feet....

Competitors can use wrestling shoes, but can't tape their feet/ankles?

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris
