If you have some huge advantage from maintaining a tight closed guard and need extra grip from sidemount, then maybe it would be a good idea. I'm leaning toward no-gi heavily, but you could always roll in class in a gi against a bunch of people without one and see how you faired.

I don't know what the first part has to do with anything, though the analogy was flawed. It should have been sprints, and in keeping with running a parachute.

By and large the ability of your opponents to ballistically excape submissions, as is often the norm in no-gi, will still be there. -

This is the no-gi rules for the next tourny i'm planning on attending (C3)
FOR NO-GI COMPETITION, COMPETITORS CAN WEAR THE FOLLOWING
A. Shorts – Shorts can not have any metal exposed that can cut a competitor or open
pockets.
B. T-Shirt – Tight fitting t-shirts may be worn. If they are excessively loose, the
competitor will be made to change or take it off.
C. Wrestling Singlet – Any wrestling singlet is legal.
D. Spandex Shorts or Shirts – Any type of spandex shirt or short are legal as long as
there is no exposed metal that can cut another competitor.
E. Kimono Pants – Kimono pants will be allowed, but can be used against the competitor
wearing them.
F. Wrestling Shoes – Wrestling Shoes are legal, but can be used against the competitor
wearing them.
naga rules:
Ø At a minimum a groin protector, mouthpiece, and shorts with a drawstring must be worn, no pockets on the shorts
Ø Wrestling/Martial Arts shoes are allowed.
Ø Anything a fight wears can be used against him/her during the match (Grabbing clothing for example) Women/Girls cannot use shirts for submission
Ø Taping of hands, wrists and feet are not allowed
I should note that the guy I fought against at NAGA had taped feet....Last edited by FictionPimp; 7/13/2006 2:45pm at .

Competitors can use wrestling shoes, but can't tape their feet/ankles?

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris
