    McDojo ALERT! CWIOT Moncton! READ

Let me start off by telling you that I have been dealing with this school for years now and I've finally had enough.

    CWIOT (Chung Won Institute of Taekwondo) is by far, the worst martial arts school in the maritimes. Let's start with the curriculum;

    Sorim T'ai Chi

First of all, "sorim" is the Korean pronouciation of "shaolin". Apprently Grand Master Chung (The CWIOT Franchise Owner) went to China at the Shaolin Temple and learned "Sorim T'ai Chi". It's simply ridiculous that he expects people to belive that he could have mastered something as obscure as that during a two-week seminar for taekwondo instructors. What to hear more? Ok, get this; he uses a belt ranking system for "Sorim T'ai Chi"! With stripes too!! Now let's talk about the forms. I'm no specialist, but I can tell you that T'ai Chi, regardless of which style, does not have dozens of different forms/patterns. Every belt or stripe you earn, you get to learn a new form. This, is total bullshido, and he's ripped old ladies off.

    CWIOT Taekwondo

Being the grand visionist that he is, Grand Master Chung has also created his own style of taekwondo, coined "Chungwon Taekwondo", which is a mix of Kukkiwon TKD sparring, ITF TKD Poomse, and some things that he just created himself. He jsut invented things such as: his knife defense techniques; are a series of kicks aimed at the wrist of the attacker, his own weapon forms; created from visiting Shaolin, and finally musical poomse; a form he invented while listening to "Eye of the Tiger".

His main student base is a few hundred ids from the ages of 4-12, which come during the day. The school actually doubles a daycare, called "Snoopy Daycare". There's another trademark ripoff if you ask me. Besides that he has classes every night which are loaded with tons of kids and a few geezers. Most of them are in their early 50's, severely overweight, and probably couldn't even hold their own against even one of the kids. It seems like the students never get better, but yet everyone still keeps passing their gradings, as long as they pay their testing fees.

    Haidong Gumdo

Grand Master Chung learned HDGD after a few days in Korea. He was then appointed as the 8th Dan Canadian HDGD Federation President. Since then he has done nothing to improve his own training, and seldom shows up to class, resorting to having a 21 year old 2nd dan teach all his classes, 4 times a week. He has been very busy though. Last year he promoted 5 "masters" to become Instant 4th Dan Masters. Now Canada is a big place so he can only train them a few days per year. These "masters" are teaching shitty HDGD all over Canada.

I'm sure some of the things you say are true about Grand Master Chung, but they also true of many other clubs. Actually maybe I've had bad luck, but I haven't trained at a club where one of your statements didn't apply. So, I think you're being a little hard on CWIOT because in my experience Grand Master Chung operates his club in a respectable way and produces some good fighters.

... I for one study under him and I am not a kid nor a geezer!

Not everyone is looking to be an Olympic fighter.. Grand Master Chung knows this and adjusts his format of teaching accordingly.

I also want to say that while some people are traditionalists and prefer things to remain unchanged, others are not and enjoy a mix of traditional TKD with some new twists. Nothing wrong with that IMO. TKD is evolving at CWIOT.. if you prefer to stick to TKD in it's purest form, find yourself an ITF club... but then you have to like the ITF sparring - that's a whole other topic.

    I wonder if we've met...

When you say have been dealing with this school, how many years are we talking about?

What made you leave it? Why took you so long, if what you say it's true?

Wow, and i mean wow. Who are you more pissed at, this Sifu fella or yourself? So you have been getting scammed for a while and NOW that you have found a forum taht spekas against it you want to 'put it all out there.' Goo d for you for sprouting balls....but you can't come here and talk **** with out atleast A) link to a website, B)video of his garbageness, C)atleast a few other guys to corroborate your info and/or D) some affidavit of legal recourse/action for ripping you off. Otherwise, we might as well jsut consider you to be CWIOT hater who got booted from his school for other reasons and is using the forums as a tool of revenge.

87 days before someone showed up to defend the school in question.

Need a website before we can properly begin analyzing how badly you got yourself ripped off (sucker).

Sorim Tai Chi? I, for the moment, will call Bullshit on this one. I'll check a couple of sources and see if something like this even exists and what it's proper name is. I have never seen anyone claiming to teach Shaolin Tai Chi, if anyone else has please post a link.

His TKD sounds about on par for every other TKD place I've seen here in the U.S.

Haedong Kumdo? The only way he got an 8th degree in that after a few days is if he knew someone in the organization who gave him an honorary title. He then probably bought the Haedong Kumdo video tapes that have all of the curriculum on them to use as a cheat sheet. I trained in Haedong Kumdo in Korea and acheived 1st degree BB. It takes at least a year to earn it legitimately in Korea. (yes they do give them out like candy over there)

    Hey Jamurai,

You got your rant on back in July. How about contributing something else to this forum besides your whining? 87 days and nothing. This does not bode well for the veracity of your initial offering.

This avoids the fact that you were taking it anyway.
