I always find it easier to escape side control than mount. Maybe it's because people get me in SC so much that I've had more experience with it.
Holding pressure in SC requires effort. Sitting on top of the guy and "cooking" him like Os described only requires some balance and fast reflexes to stay on top.
I'll have to try that foot positioning, though. Seems fairly stable. -

I dunno if you've ever got to roll with Coleman cause he's like 215 or so but he loves to do that ****. He's likes to untuck his gi and throw over my head to make it even hotter. Plus his top game is so good that I can almost never escape once he's got mount. Drives me nuts.

Well, just got around to testing Sam's original point of placing your feet on their hips when you've got them mounted, and it did work pretty well. It seems to give you a little extra leverage, and lets you feel what they are doing a bit better. We were just working positional, and I managed to get good mount hold downs on the other big guys pretty well using the trick. Nice tip, Sam!
