there are plenty of groups in Brazil that practice full contact capoeira, but these goddamn American Hippies are too chickenshit to wanna beat up on each other.

Here's a link to a small clip from a group in Brazil called Muzenza.

    check it out.

that's interseting & athletic as hell, but I'd say it's a far cry from full contact.

That clip, while interesting, still does not qualify capoeira as a fighting art, at least from what I've seen (EDIT: I should clarify. I have seen MANY capoeiristas do their thing, and I think I'm pretty well informed about the reason people play capoeira).

Capoeira has ALWAYS been a game, more than anything. Second to that, it's a dance, and LASTLY, and most unimportantly (to most of it's practitioners), a way of fighting. The oft watched demo reel of "capokurt" is simply a well edited series of clips about him beating down krotty kids.

Just trying to categorize capoeira as a fighting style is misguided, for obvious reasons.

yes, while ignoring the fact that it was used by brazilian gangsters to fight cops during the late 1800s. Not to mention the knife training they had. Or the fact the Mestre Bimba fought off cops using only headbutts and ground crecents (and the fact that the brazilian police is known to be one of the most bloodthristy [even more so than the LAPD]). Oh yeah, also, the fact that slaves used it to defend themselves, and run away into the Quilombos, and fought off the military using only capoeira?

There are fake people in all martial arts. It just so happens that a whole bunch of dipshit hippies join capoeira because they know nothing about what it's REALLY like.

I've gotten my nose fractured, as well as a dislocated shoulder while playing capoeira at batizados.

well ****, I could say pretty much the same thing about both basketball and baseball, but I wouldn't try to pass them off as effective fighting styles.

Don't EVEN throw that card out there, bro. You sound like you're reading out of Black Belt magazine. Seriously, why don't you just throw in that Mestre Bimba fought of an alien inasion with only double-legs and windmill kicks?

A capoeira street fight with a cop would follow this line of action:

Encounter ----> Ginga ----> Slice that mutherfucker with your razor

Let's not even pretend that a criminal would go to all that trouble when his main objective is to cut a cop. And I got hurt playing basketball, it doesn't make it a fighting style.

I'm stating recorded facts, you guys are just stating opinions. Do a little research, and you'll see for yourself.

Show me black and white. Your "recorded facts" mean **** without black and white to back them up.
