I saw some online video once of some capoeira freak who won full contact bouts ko'ing people with acrobatic kicks. I think it may have been posted on bullshido actually.

It's probably a good supplement to an existing training program. I'd categorise it with things like gymnastics, yoga, etc. They all build attributes and a mastery of one's bodyweight which is useful to a fighter but you need to look elsewhere for the fighting techniques.
Straight punches make you go blind. More damage is done to a criminals nervous system when they are struck. Strikes that make you stronger. All this and more systema douchebaggery:

There has only been one in the last couple of years that I know of, can't remember the name of the event right now but it allowed grappling so you had Capoeira and BJJ going on.

There are Capoeira competitions but they aren't fool contact and they fight for points. They get scored on how well they move and deomstrated techniques during the jogo.

The sum of my experience with Capoiera == almost as many hot chicks as TKD, but not quite.

Thought I was watching savate there for a moment. The power generation appears to be almost identical. Savate, capoeira, boyovyi hopak... very different looking stuff. IRL, I'd hate to catch some of those kicks from the first bout from a dude wearing shoes.
